Green Briar Camera Club
March 18 - May 12, 2013

Green Briar Camera Club
Green Briar Camera Club has been serving photography enthusiasts for over 70 years. It is the second oldest camera club in the Chicago Area Camera Clubs Association (CACCA) - an umbrella group of over thirty camera clubs throughout the Chicago region. In 2012, Green Briar celebrated its 72nd year of membership in the Photographic Society of America (PSA), an organization representing nearly 7,000 amateur and professional members in 70 countries.
Green Briar has a small but active membership and welcomes anyone interested in photography to join. We meet in our namesake Green Briar Park Field House, 2650 W. Peterson Avenue, Chicago, at 7:30 pm on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from October through May. Members come from all backgrounds and occupations. Our goal is to learn about and improve our photography in a helpful, friendly atmosphere.
Each month we hold photo competitions (8 in all) in color and in black and white digital projected image and print photography. Special annual competitions are held on nature/wildlife photography and photojournalism/human interest. Participation in any competition is voluntary. All images are judged by a panel of expert photo evaluators and remain the property of the maker. For the benefit of all attendees, competition judges are asked to orally critique images they’ve judged.
We celebrate with an annual awards banquet in June. Throughout the year, we take field trips to photographically interesting venues and events (e.g. Illinois Railway Museum, Chicago Botanic Garden, Old World Wisconsin, etc.).
Indicative of the high value of club membership, most of our members have been affiliated with CACCA and Green Briar for many years. Some serve as photo judges for other camera clubs. You’ll find that we shoot a wide variety of subjects: nature, photojournalism, creative/ab-stract, portraits, are among them. Current members’ photographic interests include infrared photography, macro photography, high dynamic range (HDR) technique, postcard and Christmas card creation, digital slide shows, large format photography, photo editing and printing and much more. There are no requirements on the type of photo gear – the camera you have will do. And no matter what area of photography you’re interested in, most likely there’s someone at Green Briar who’ll be glad to help you in your photographic endeavors.
For its long history of operation, and for its sharing of photographic knowledge by its members, Green Briar takes pride. And though Green Briar is small relative to most other camera clubs, it does extremely well in inter-club photo competitions held through CACCA and PSA. Many of its members have won “Best of Shows” and “First Places” in outside competitions and shows, and have had photos published.
Membership dues are $40/year. To see what we’re about, interested persons are welcome to come to our meetings without cost. Our regular schedule is as above, but if you’d like to come join or visit please contact our co-president – John Peterson at jcp4x5@ameritech.net - to be sure we haven’t made a schedule change or we’re meeting off-site.
